Why we exist

It has struck me on numerous occasions that the online music industry is horrifyingly Americocentric. By means of example, a good friend of mine works as online marketing manager for a UK-based indie label, and at a recent conference he attended, the gathered marketing heads of the UK music industry were posed a seemingly simple question: which is the leading UK music blog? Seems simple enough, but the fact of the matter is that no-one there could name even one UK music blog that was taken seriously.

mpk-SIFThe problem lies not in the fact that there is a lack of people in this country writing about music, but instead that so many of them are doing such a bad job of it. At the oh-so-prestigious NME awards this year, there was only one British nominee in the "best music blog" category: nothingbutgreenlights.net.

Therefore its clearly high time that someone gave Mike at NBGL a run for his money. I'll be concentrating, naturally, on UK bands, but I'll also look to spotlight some of the bands from overseas that I feel deserve a damn sight more exposure in this country than they get at the moment.
